Hayes center offers beginner genealogy class

FREMONT — The Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center will offer its Beginning Genealogy Class from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. May 19 in the Hayes Research Library.

The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for students through high school. Advance registration is required.

The class is sponsored by RootsMagic Inc.

Hayes Research Library head librarian Becky Hill, an experienced genealogist, will lead the class. Hill will teach the basic steps of starting a genealogical search. Each person attending will receive handouts designed to help them create a family tree.

At the end of the workshop, participants will tour of the Hayes Research Library, which contains one of the area’s most extensive collections of genealogical resources. Library staff will offer individual help to people wishing to begin their research immediately. Guidance will be provided for using the Hayes Presidential Center website, www., which contains the Ohio Obituary Index, a name index list of 1.6 million obituary notices published in newspapers throughout Ohio.
